Food Safety For the Cheap and Adventurous
Can apple sauce go bad?|
There's two glass jars in my fridge, one open and one sealed, and they're been in there since like summer. I really want to eat them, but I'm not sure if it's safe.
depends on the type. Motts is usually okay for a long time. when I left mine in there too long, there were mold spots on the top so I'd be careful. Try the unopened one first. if the top still pops when you twist it it should be okay. those things sit on the grocery store shelves for months.
I looked, and the one's top would still pop so I think it's good.
I agree the jar stuff last a long time, my family would have jars open for a long time in the fridge as a kid.
I'd eat the sealed one, but I'd toss the opened one.
Yeah, that's what I was leaning towards too. Thanks!
Toss the open one. I left an open one in the fridge for a while, and when I looked at it some months later it had grown mold.
What'd the mold look like?
I think it was white spots.
All my applesauce was GREEN mold
or it will taste like alcohol before it molds it if is bad.
Before the white spots comes a sour smell and flavor, and a runny texture.
